My Story
Nice to meet you! I'm Clair, a self-taught artist with a mission to protect fragile marine ecosystems through art sales and artivism. My specialties are printmaking, ink, and acrylics, but I'm constantly trying new things. My inspiration comes from the natural beauty of O'ahu, Hawai'i, where I've called home for 9 years. I'm a free diver who has witnessed the detriment of plastic pollution, coral bleaching, and marine entanglements from derelict fishing gear, which has made me hyper-aware of the responsibility that we all have to ensure that marine habitats and species are protected and preserved. I regularly hunt ghost nets and cleanup shorelines from marine debris, primarily originating from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and commercial fishing industry.
My favorite subjects are sharks! As a child, I had an irrational fear of sharks, no thanks to Hollywood. Free diving has introduced me to many shark species and allowed me to understand and respect them for their critical role in the health of the oceans. Below, is a photo of Shaiban, a juvenile male shark that I was fortunate to meet while on a research trip based on the island of Dhigurah.
I live with my husband, Michael, and our two rescue dogs and two formerly-feral cats. I'd love to hear from you, so please be sure to drop me a line!
